A professor of political economy, Pat Utomi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the worsening economic hardship in the country, accusing the government of making life unbearable for hardworking Nigerians.

Utomi made the criticism in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, where he lamented the difficulties faced by Nigerians struggling to earn a living.

He accused the All Progressives Congress-led government of creating an economic environment where people who work hard are unable to enjoy the benefits of their labour.

“The incompetence of the APC government has turned the daily struggle for survival into an unbearable burden for hardworking Nigerians. Those who labour honestly to earn a living are being punished by a system that should be making their lives easier,” he wrote.

The economist described the situation as unfortunate, considering Nigeria’s abundant resources, while accusing the government of failing to provide effective leadership.

He also cited the rising costs of food, transportation and other essential needs as some of the challenges confronting households across the country.

Utomi urged the Tinubu administration to stop blaming previous governments for the country’s economic difficulties and take responsibility for addressing the situation.

He said Nigerians were tired of excuses and wanted concrete measures that would reduce the cost of living and ease the burden on families.

The political economist further urged citizens to remain hopeful and use their votes in the 2027 general election to elect leaders who would improve their living conditions.
