AFCON: Alex Iwobi returns for Lesotho

Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi is set to return to the squad for Today’s final Group L game of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

The Everton FC of England missed their previous 0-1 win over Benin Republic in Port Novo due to a positive COVID-19 result.

The latest COVID-19 test conducted on the player returned negative as of Tuesday morning according to Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji.

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has stated that Iwobi’s COVID-19 result will determine his availability for the dead rubber game against the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere Lagos.

The result meant that the Everton player will be available for selection, while Joe Aribo might not be available due to stomach upset.

Nigeria with eleven points will finish as Group L leaders irrespective of the outcome of their final group game against Lesotho as well as Sierra Leone’s duel with Benin Republic as they have qualified for the Cameroon 2022 tournament.
