AGN Lagos mourns veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’

The Lagos State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed grief over the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
In a statement, the guild described the late actor as a major figure in Nigerian cinema whose career spanned more than three decades.

The AGN Lagos said Ogogo was known for his commanding screen presence, distinctive voice and roles that reflected Nigerian culture and values.

The guild also described him as a mentor to younger actors and a disciplined professional who made significant contributions to the Yoruba movie industry.

Speaking on behalf of the guild’s chairman, executives and members, the Director of Communications, Amb. Cornell Udofia, said Ogogo’s death was a major loss to the creative industry.

The guild said the actor represented excellence and integrity and left a lasting impact on Nollywood through his body of work.

It extended its condolences to Ogogo’s family, the national leadership and members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the wider Nollywood community and his fans.

The guild also prayed for the repose of his soul and strength for his family to cope with the loss.

Ogogo was reportedly scheduled to be buried in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday according to Islamic rites.
