Arotile: Court Frees Two Suspected Of Killing Of Female Pilot

By Emmanuel Awosika
A Kaduna State Magistrate Court has freed Folorunsho Igbekele Faith and Gbayegun Deji, part of the trio alleged to have killed Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot.
However, the primary suspect in the case, Nehemiah Adejor, has been charged with culpable homicide and will be arraigned before the State High Court on September 3rd, 2020.
The primary suspect, Nehemiah Adejor, had driven the car that allegedly killed Arotile, while the Folorunsho Igbekele Faith and Gbayegun Deji were occupants in the vehicle.
In its investigations, the prosecution had failed to find any wrongdoing on the part of the duo of Folorunsho Igbekele Faith and Gbayegun Deji.
Accordingly, Counsel to the Prosecution, DSP Martins D. Leo, prayed the Court to release the third and fourth suspects, as investigations had not found them wanting.
Magistrate Hassan, presiding over the court, discharged Folorunsho Igbekele Faith and Gbayegun Deji, based on the statement of the police who said the two had no blame in the killing of Arotile.
A document containing legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution was read out in the open court.
In it, the DPP said investigations did not find evidence that Flying Officer Arotile’s death was premeditated, but said there is enough evidence to charge the primary suspect in the case, Nehemiah Adejor, for culpable homicide.
