Buhari’s Nephew Travels Abroad For Treatment

By Emmanuel Awosika

A nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mamman Daura, reportedly left the country on Wednesday aboard an international flight headed to the United Kingdom.

The news of Daura’s flight was first shared by Sahara Reporters, an online news platform.

“Daura, 80, was said to have been flown in a private jet to the UK on Wednesday after exhibiting respiratory difficulties with symptoms similar to coronavirus since last Friday,” the report read.

The trip comes even as the FG says the ban on international flights, a cautionary measure to stem to the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria, remains in place.

Earlier this month, Aisha Buhari, wife to the President, traveled to the United Arab Emirates for medical treatment, in direct contravention of the order on international flights.

The Presidency has not said anything on Daura’s trip, with efforts to get in touch with the presidential spokespeople providing ineffective.

However, a source within the Presidency, pleading anonymity, said it was not possible for the Presidency to say anything on Daura’s flight, as he is not a government official.

“Is he (Daura) a government official? Is that how the Presidency has been speaking officially on the movement of private citizens? I think it will be unfair to expect the Presidency to speak on this,” the source said.
