Atiku criticises Tinubu over borrowing, economic policies

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its borrowing and economic policies.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 election, made the comments while assessing the Federal Government’s handling of the economy.

He accused the Tinubu administration of excessive borrowing and said the government had failed to manage the country’s resources effectively.

Atiku also criticised what he described as the rising cost of living and the impact of government policies on Nigerians.

He said the government should prioritise measures aimed at reducing economic pressure on households and businesses.

The former vice-president further questioned the level of borrowing under the current administration and its implications for the country’s finances.

Atiku said Nigerians were bearing the consequences of policies that had increased the cost of living, while calling for greater accountability in the management of public funds.

The Federal Government has defended its economic reforms, saying they are aimed at addressing structural challenges, stabilising the economy and creating conditions for long-term growth.

The latest criticism is part of Atiku’s broader opposition to the Tinubu administration as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.
