Ayade gives out 54 SUVs to LGA council officials

Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has given out 54 Sport Utility Vehicles to officers of the 18 Local Government Councils in the state.

The breakdown shows 18 council chairmen each received a Ford Edge, 18 vice-chairmen each received a Ford Escape and 18 other council leaders each received a Ford Ecosport.

Speaking at the handing-over of the vehicles at Governor’s Office in Diamond Hill, Calabar, Governor Ayade, represented by his deputy, Ivara Esu, urged the officials to make good use of the vehicles.

Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in the state, Stella Odey, explained the government purchased the vehicles through the JAAC Accounts in compliance with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit guidelines.

She said, “The cars are not free gifts, they were purchased through the JAAC Accounts and going by NFIU regulations, they were procured by the chairmen themselves and the funds came through their individual local government accounts.

“The governor kept funds for them even before they came in and that’s why we have been able to purchase the cars.

“It’s their entitlement because it has always been a practice that the chairmen of councils considering the exigencies of their office deserve mobility.”
