Bandits invade Sokoto market, kill scores

Reports have it that the Goronyo market in Goronyo Local Government Area in the Eastern Senatorial District of Sokoto State, has been attacked by bandits leaving an unspecified number of persons dead.
DAILY POST reports that incident occurred on Sunday night when the armed men invaded the market in large numbers, shooting sporadically and gunned down many villagers who were engaged in their usual night transactions.
Details of causalities has not been ascertained and remained sketchy as at press time.
When contacted, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said he was yet to receive an official briefing on the incident.
“I’ve not been officially briefed, I will get back to you soonest”, the command’s spokesman said in a text message to Daily Post.
This incident marks the third time in two weeks that the armed bandits attacked village markets in the state amid military operations in the area.
