 Bandits: Zamfara schools resume 20 weeks after closure

Zamfara State Government, on Sunday, announced the reopening of some primary and secondary schools.

The schools would resume today, Monday, January 17.

Shehu Ibrahim, Acting Director, Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, made the announcement on Sunday.

Public and private schools categorized as “green’’ and “yellow’’ by the authorities are to resume normal academic activities.

Those under the “red“ category remain closed until the security situation improves.

The reopening comes 20 weeks after bandits abducted 80 students and 3 teachers from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area.

All the captives are now free. Earlier, 279 female students of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Marafa LGA.

They were freed in March 2021 after negotiations with the government. The bandits have killed and taken many hostages for ransom.
