Bayelsa gov announces new chairman for Lagos PDP

Bayelsa State Governor , Douye Diri, has announced a new chairman for Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This came after a keenly contested election between the contestants of the position.

Duoye, who was pleased by the election, pronunced a former Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism in Lagos State, Philip Aivoji Olabode, as the new chairman of the party after he defeated five other aspirants for the position.

Aivoji emerged winner of the exercise, which started on Sunday at 11 am with the accreditation of delegates at the Police College in Ikeja GRA, followed by voting and counting at Haven Hall beside Archbishop Vining Church, also in Ikeja, which was finally brought to conclusion around 6 am on Monday.

Aivoji polled 839 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dr Amos Fawole with a margin of 23 votes as he scored 816 votes. A total of 1,786 delegates were accredited for the congress.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Hon. Diri, declared Aivoji the winner of the exercise, saying that Aivoji emerged the winner after the open electoral system, adding that he polled 839 votes to defeat his five opponents.

“I hereby announce the result, we have six candidates for the chairmanship position and Philip Olabode Aivoji polled 839 votes to emerge the winner. I hereby declare Philip Aivoji as the chairman for Lagos PDP,” Diri declared.

The governor, therefore, urged members of the party to be united and work for its success so that PDP can produce the next governor of Lagos State, come 2023.
