 Breaking: UNILAG sacks VC

The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has sacked the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

The council announce his removal during the meeting of the Governing Council of the institution which held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) building in Abuja today.

Seven members voted in support of the development while four others voted against his removal, one of the members voted that he should rather be placed on suspension.

The meeting was presided over by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN).

However, the action may likely cause issues within the management setup of the institution.

Following the development, representative of the senate in the Council, Prof. Olukemi Odukoya sent an urgent message to senate members on the event and urged them to stand up against the ‘Unacceptable’ action.

According to her, “It is with great regret that I announce to you that the ProChancellor has had is way in actualising his machinery to remove the Vice Chancellor.

At today’s 12th August 2020, Emergency Meeting of Council in Abuja, Dr. Babalakin asked the VC and DVC (DS) to leave the meeting and by vote of 6 to 4, announced that the Vice Chancellor has been removed.
Members, arise, this is unacceptable. We must defend the Management of the University.
