Census: NPC commences house enumeration in Lagos

The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced enumeration of houses into smaller bits in Lagos for easy head count during the upcoming census exercise.

The Assigned Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) team were seen registering each house showcased in the provided landmark by naming and numbering them while labelling the houses without occupants through discretion in Ejigbo area of Lagos State.

However, the NPC officials, who were carrying out the survey, were aggrieved over the residents’ attitude and unwelcoming response to them despite painstakingly doing the survey under the scorching sun.

“The residents’ approach towards us is not a matter of lack of communication but a case of different ideology as some educated adults insult and threaten us for writing on their wall while others accommodate and encourage us in our dealings,” they complained.

They explained that the numbering and marking of the houses were part of the enumeration which is the survey of the community they have to carry out before the proper head counting commences.

The officials therefore appealed to the residents to cooperate with them while carrying out the exercise.

They also appealed to the appropriate authorities to provide enough survey materials such as chalk and or permanent markers, saying the little details inscribed on the walls are part of what speeds the counting process to avoid double counting.

They, however, appreciated Ejigbo LCDA Chairman, Hon. Monsurudeen Bello (Obe) for the donation of N50,000 to support the process.

While carrying out the numbering exercise, it was observed that there are more shanties in some communities in the local council area used as either workshop, occupied by some people or located in the market places.
