A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the acquisition of a presidential Airbus and a yacht, describing him as a “prodigal child with no identity.”

Melaye made the remarks in a video shared on his X account while questioning the administration’s spending priorities.

The former Kogi West senator said Tinubu had declined to use an aircraft acquired for the Office of the President under his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari.

“Three years before the next government, Buhari bought a jet for the office of the President but Tinubu came and refused to use it. He’s the first Nigerian to get an Airbus,” Melaye said.

He also questioned the acquisition of a yacht, claiming it had never been used within Nigeria’s territorial waters.

“Is that not a prodigal child? But it’s not his fault. Yoruba people say a child with no identity,” he added.

Melaye further questioned Tinubu’s personal background, claiming that an online challenge he organised to find the president’s former classmates had not produced a response.

The ADC chieftain used the remarks to criticise the administration’s performance, saying Nigeria had not experienced such difficult conditions before.

“We have never seen it this terrible,” he said.

His comments come amid growing opposition criticism of Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The Presidency had yet to respond publicly to Melaye’s latest remarks at the time of filing this report.
