Eid-al-Fitr: Plateau Police Command deploys 2, 089 officers, warns against flouting govt’s ban on prayers at Eid ground

In its quest to ensure a hitch-free Eid-al-Fitr celebration, the Plateau State Police Command has deployed 2, 089 of its personnel in the state.
The command also reiterated the government’s directive that there will be no prayers on all Eid grounds, “but Mosques where Eid prayer will be observed should not have more than fifty worshipers.”
This was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Ogaba, reminding citizens of the state that both the Federal and State Government’s safety directives on COVID-19 pandemic are still in force.
According to him, the aforementioned were part of the resolution of a meeting held on 20th May, 2020 with security chiefs, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders in Plateau State in order to fine-tune its strategies to ensure a crime-free Eid-al-Fitr celebration across the state.
Ogaba said, “The command, therefore, solicits the cooperation of the peace loving people of Plateau State in the maintenance of law and order during the festivities on Saturday, 23rd and Sunday, 24th May, 2020.
He added that, “In order to ensure adequate security and safety of citizens during the Eid El Fitr celebration; the command shall deploy a total of 2, 089 personnel to detect and prevent crime as well as control traffic.
“There will be no prayers on all Eid grounds but Mosques where Eid prayer will be observed should not have more than 50 worshipers”, he warned.
“Social distancing, use of hand sanitizers and wearing of face mask remain compulsory for all”, he maintained.
The Command reminded the citizenry that, there will a total ban on the use of tricycles (Keke) during the Sallah celebrations within Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
“All relaxation centers such as the National Museum, Zoo, Wildlife Park, Social Joints and other recreational centres in the State are closed down as usual and in this period of sallah celebration”, he explained.
The Spokesman also said that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks such as knockout, bangers and other explosives is still in force, and warned that violators will face the wrath of the law.
“Parents are required to counsel their children not to indulge in drugs or substance abuse as well as any other form of anti-social activities,” the statement said.
