Ekweremadu to appear in UK court today

By Ibrahim Adeleke

Former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife Beatrice are expected to appear in a UK court today.

The UK Metropolitan Police arrested Ekweremadu and his wife and later charged them with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting in the UK.

The charges involve arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting, according to a Met statement.

The victim whose travel was facilitated to UK by the suspects was said to be a homeless 15-year-old boy picked from the streets of Lagos under false pretense. It was later proved that the victim was 21.

However, the issue of voluntary consent is also in focus on the legal issue.
