 Prince Rotimi Oyedele emerges new Atawa of Latanwa, Sagamu

The kingmakers of Latanwa, Sagamu has elected Prince Rotimi Oyedele of the Oyefolu rulling house as the next Atawa of Latanwa, Sagamu.

The decision was reached at the Atawa palace on Monday, April 4, 2022 at about 12:48pm.

The Oba elect was announced by Chief Lisa of Latanwa, High Chief, Yisa Odunbajo after the new Atawa polled 4 votes out of five kingmakers to beat his opponent, Prince Dabiri Adeniyi Babatunde who polled one vote.

Five kingmakers namely: High Chief Yisa Odunbajo (Lisa), Chief Waidi Oyefeso (Oluwo), High Chief J. O Adeokun (Apena), Otunba Olalekan Ademosiin, and Olootu Ijo Ayo Ogunfunwa made the decision known in the presence of the secretary to the local government, Kola Onalaja and the Director General Service and Administration, Mr. Safiriyu from the Sagamu local government.

The stool of the Atawa became vacant after the last Atawa, HRH, Oba Jimoh Sosanya Alaga joined his ancestors in 2021.

According to the spokesman of the kingmakers, High Chief J.O Adeokun the Apena of Latanwa, the process that led to the new Oba elect was free and fair,

“We did what the ancestors directed us to do. I believe God has chosen him before now. That is why his choice was free and fair. The rest is left for the Government to act. After that, we proceed to his coronation. But, all that needed to be done from the kingmakers has been concluded today.”
