EndSARS: PDP suspends campaigns across the country

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended all political and electioneering activities.

This was contained in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja in Friday.

The party said the decision was to honour those who lost their lives in the attack on peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate as well as various areas in the country.

Earlier, the party’s leadership had instructed PDP offices across the country should fly its flags at half-mast to commiserate with Nigerians in these tough times.

Ologbondiyan praised the INEC for postponing by-elections in various parts of the country, calling it a “step in the right direction.”

He called on the INEC to evaluate the situation properly and make efforts to conduct free and fair elections, which would help reduce the tension in the country.

The PDP spokesman futher called on the nation’s security forces to use this period to prepare for their roles in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during elections.

“The PDP also restates its call for calm and prayers for our nation at this critical time in our national life, even as all hands must be on the deck in finding solutions and the way forward for our nation,” he concluded.
