Arsenal legend, Martin Keown has told current manager, Mikel Arteta to strip Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captaincy following his disciplinary breach.

Arterta left Aubamayeng out of the squad that defeated Southampton 3-0 on Saturday.

The Spaniard said the striker was dropped “due to a disciplinary breach”.

There have been suggestions that Aubameyang returned late from a trip abroad, and Keown stated that the 32-year-old’s actions are not befitting of being the club’s captain.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Keown said: “The captaincy is in question now.

“You can’t keep being late or disappearing on trips abroad and not coming back on time.

“Your teams need you, and he’s not there when they need him the most. I’d expect that [the captaincy] to change now.”

Aubameyang joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

The Gabonese international has found the net on 92 occasions in 163 games for the Gunners so far.
