Human rights lawyer and political activist, Dele Farotimi, has said recent developments in Nigeria have vindicated the views expressed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Farotimi made the assertion in a video shared on social media, arguing that Kanu’s criticisms of the Nigerian state had been validated by events in the country.

According to him, he has no disagreement with the facts presented by Kanu in his agitation against the Nigerian government.

“I’m today convinced that Nnamdi Kanu was 110% correct in his assessment of the Nigerian state,” Farotimi said.

He also questioned the continued detention of Kanu, noting that several people accused of serious crimes remain free.

Farotimi said the situation amounted to a vindication of Kanu’s position, adding that Nigeria was encouraging extreme responses by failing to address legitimate grievances.

He warned that when authorities refuse to listen to moderate or rational voices, more radical positions could gain ground.
The activist further said he had previously engaged with separatist agitators in different parts of the country, including the South-East and South-West.

Farotimi maintained that addressing the grievances behind separatist agitations was necessary to prevent further escalation of tensions across the country.
