 FG to diversify econony, inaugurates digital projects

The Federal Government in a bid towards diversifying the economy from natural resources to knowledge-based economy has inaugurated five digital projects.

The Minister of Communicatons and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, inaugurated the projects on behalf of the President Muhammadu Buhari in Gombe State.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Hadiza Umar, the five projects are: NITDA Information Technology Hub in Gombe State University; NITDA Innovation and Incubation Park, Federal University Kashare; Information and Communication Technology Community Centre, Tudun Wada; IT Training Centre, Dukku; and the Nigerian Communications Satellite Regional Office.

Pantami during the inauguration, stated that the government had been inaugurating digital economy projects in the country because it recognises that citizens are the greatest assets in a county, and ICT innovations would support the development of a digitally literate and skilled citizens.

The minister said that digital economy had positively impacted the country’s economy, stating that according to the first quarter and second quarters Gross Domestic Product reports released by the National Bureau of Statistics, ICT had contributed 14.07 and 17.83 per cent respectively to Nigeria’s total GDP.
