FIFA bans eight premier league stars for weekend games

By Joseph Ayinde

At least eight Premier League players will be missing in action this weekend due to a ban by the governing football body, FIFA.

The clubs affected include Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Leeds.

UK Sun reports that the players, mostly Brazilians, were banned after skipping World Cup duty.

Fifa today informed the Prem clubs that the Brazilian FA had asked them to impose the “five day restriction” on the players who did not travel for the international break.

Under Fifa regulations, agreed by the 211 member nations, the five day restriction is automatically mandated if a national association asks for it to be imposed.

Fred will miss United’s games against Newcastle and the opening Champions League game at Young Boys.

Liverpool who face Leeds on Sunday will be without Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino, while Marcelo Bielsa will leave Raphinha out of the clash.

Prem Champions City will miss Ederson and Gabriel Jesus at Leicester on Saturday while Europian Champs, Chelsea, will be without centre-back Thiago Silva for their games with Aston Villa and their UCL match against Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday.

It is understood that Premier League clubs plan to contest the ruling.
