Frank Edoho reveals why Who Wants To Be A Millionaire went off air
Veteran television host Frank Edoho has explained why the popular Nigerian game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire suddenly stopped airing, attributing its exit to the loss of its major sponsor.
Speaking in a recent interview, Edoho disclosed that the programme enjoyed the backing of a major telecommunications company for about a decade before the firm withdrew its sponsorship after being hit with a heavy financial penalty by the Federal Government.
According to him, the sponsor’s departure left the show without the financial support needed to continue production, forcing it off television despite its widespread popularity.
The broadcaster, who became a household name through his long-running role as host of the quiz show, noted that the programme’s success depended largely on sponsorship, making it difficult to sustain once that support ended.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire first aired in Nigeria in 2004 and quickly became one of the country’s most popular television game shows, with Edoho serving as its host for many years before the programme eventually left the air.
