Gang-up against Aregbesola’ll fail, says aide

By Ibrahim Adeleke

Touted clash of interest between the Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been described as a gang-up against the minister by those who are envious of his rising political profile.

This was disclosed by the Special Consultant to the Interior Minister on Security Matters, Dr. Dipo Okeyomi, in an exclusive interview with FirstNews.

Okeyomi, known in Lagos political circles as Carry Go, said, “All we are witnessing now is a product of gang-up by those who are envious of the rising profile of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the next presidential election knocks on the door.”

While not admitting that his boss will soon declare presidential ambition, Okeyomi said there is pressure on Aregbesola to contest for President but that he is still to decide.

“Those who are cooking up stories that Aregbesola is attacking Tinubu are well aware of pressure being mounted on Aregbesola to join the presidential race and so are ready to formulate lies to discredit him.

“They have checked Aregbesola’s record and cannot find anything fraudulent to attach to him, they know the man is clean and they are mortally threatened by the glow of his fidelity.

“They know that President Buhari likes him because he is not a thief and he is decent, so all they now do is to start flying the kite that he is insulting Tinubu,” he explained.

Okeyomi said Aregbesola had never on any occasion spoken against Tinubu but only expressed his indignation with the attitude of his successor, the Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola.

“Even concerning Aregbesola’s disagreement with Oyetola, it is an internal thing in the party and efforts are being made to make the governor realise his faults and adjust,” he stressed.
