‘Goat’ aspersion: Adeboye’s son apologises to RCCG pastors, sanctioned

By Ibrahim Adeleke

In the aftermath of a social media post describing some pastors as ‘goats’, Pastor Leke Adeboye, the son of General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, has tendered apologies.

However, this has not extricated him from sanction, as the Governing Council of the Church has taken some undisclosed disciplinary measures against Leke, who is also a pastor.

However, a penitent Adeboye’s son said he accepted the punishment meted out to him in good faith, adding that he would use the period of the sanction to reflect and introspect.

“I wish to use this medium to tender my unreserved apologies on the statement made from my social media handle about our esteemed Pastors.

“The disciplinary measures taken by the mission is well received and this period will be used to reflect and introspect.

“I wish to crave your indulgence to please forgive my extreme statement which I wish to emphasise was absolutely not intended to insult or malign.

“I also wish to apologise profusely to the entire leadership and pastors of our beloved Church who might have been hurt by this statement.

“I remain humbly yours in God’s love and mercies.

“Yours in His service.”, the younger Adeboye stated.

Recall that the ‘goat’ comment was spurred by Leke’s remonstration that some pastors still went ahead to preach in their respective parishes after his father, Pastor E.A Adeboye, fondly called Daddy GO had preached on the first Sunday of the month, which is a Thanksgiving service.

All churches were expected to hook on to the church headquarters for Daddy GO’s sermon, which should serve all.

Reacting to some pastors’ additional sermons, Leke had described them as ‘goats’ and not ‘sons’.

Leke had then taken to his Instagram page and posted: “Why would you go and preach another sermon after Daddy GO had just finished speaking and preaching. You are not a son, you are a goat sir.

“Next Thanksgiving service, just do altar call, then Thanksgiving.”
