 Gunmen Attack On Policemen in Abia Leaves One Dead And Four Injured

Gunmen attacked a group of five policemen in Ohafia area of Abia State on Monday, killing one and leaving four others injured.

It was gathered that the attack had happened in the early hours of Monday while the policemen were in the area for an operation.

The gunmen, about a dozen in number, had engaged the policemen in a gunfight at Okagwe Junction in Ohafia where they [the policemen] were stationed.

Reportedly, the gunmen had shot one of the policemen dead during the shootout and inflicted injuries on the others.

The policemen, however, retaliated and shot at the gunmen, giving the latter group enough bullet injuries that they had no choice but flee.

While the State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede, hasn’t made any formal statement on the attack, a senior police officer confirmed the incident to media outlets.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Government released a statement praising the gallantry of the dead police officer, and promising to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

It further urged Abia residents to report the sighting of any patient with bullet injuries to the police force in the state.
