 Gunmen Kidnap Villagers In Abuja

By Emmanuel Awosika

Reports coming out of Abuja say about 20 residents of Tungan Maje Village, a border town between the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State were kidnapped on Thursday.

According to reports, the masked gunmen had attacked the village on Thursday and abducted a score residents.

Although local vigilantes tried to stop them, the kidnappers were able to flee across the border into Niger State with their victims.

However, the FCT Police has come out to say only 10 persons were kidnapped, saying it had rescued five of the victims.

It said a team comprising members of the Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Rapid Response Squad and the Zuba Police Division, had responded to the attack.

This was contained in a statement released by the FCT Police Spokesperson, DSP Anjuguri Manzah titled, ‘Police operatives rescue five kidnap victims’.

The statement reads, “The command wishes to inform the public that when it received a distress call on the kidnap of some persons on September 10, 2020, at about 0130hrs in Tungan Maje, a village bordering FCT and Niger state, a joint team of police operatives from the command Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Rapid Response Squad and Zuba Police Division responded swiftly.

“During a fierce gun confrontation with the heavily armed hoodlums, the police team successfully rescued five of the kidnapped victims.”
