By Emmanuel Awosika

Sunday Shodipe, the dreaded killer whom the Oyo State Police recently re-arrested, said he fled detention after the herbalist he shared a cell with asked him to escape and shed more blood “to appease the spirits tormenting him.”

The suspect, who was among paraded the 33 criminals paraded by the Oyo State Police Command, said he had escaped so he could spill blood to pacify the spirits afflicting the herbalist he was held with.

“The herbalist with whom I was detained told me to escape from detention to provide blood to appease some spirits who were sucking his (herbalist) blood since he could no longer get access to hard drinks and other ingredients like colanuts, alligator pepper which he was using to offer sacrifice in the cell,” he said.

Shodipe escaped from his cell last Sunday and was re-arrested on August 13, 2020.

He was suspected to be responsible for the murder of a woman, Mrs. Oladeji Funmilayo, which had occurred shortly after his escape.

However, he confessed to killing the woman, who was a resident of the Akinyele area of Ibadan, Oyo, before her death.

He said, “After I escaped from Mokola Police cell in Ibadan, I went to do what Baba Adedokun asked me to do to save him from dying.

“I went from Moniya where I used to live to Akinyele and used an object to hack the woman. Blood gushed out and I recited what Baba always said I should recite, mentioning his name. I disappeared as usual but did not know whether the woman died.”

The suspect further confessed that he did not use any charms while committing his dastardly deeds, and also indicated he did not know what the herbalist in question was using him for.

“I don’t have any charm. I don’t know what Baba Adedokun was using me for. He said it was my initial confession that kept him in detention and that if I had not confessed and mentioned his name as the person using him, both of us would have been out”, he explained.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, said, “Shodipe confessed that he inflicted machete injury on the woman’s head and left her in the pool of her own blood.

“The victim who was brutally attacked by the notorious killer was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where she later gave up the ghost”.
