The Chairman of Ago Phase II United Forum (APUF), Prince Nixon Okwara, said he has directed the community taskforce to issue a letter of undertaking to the management of Sifax Shipping Company Limited, one of the multinational bonded terminal operators on the popular Ago-Palace, to curb the persistent illegal parking on the axis.

Okwara charged residents to remain conscious and sustain the efforts against the menace of illegal parking in the community.

Okwara had earlier rated the activities of the anti-illegal parking team set up by the council authority low owing to the fact that the team was not well constituted as it did not involve members of the community who are the direct victim of the alleged illegal parking by the terminal owners in the corridor.

Okwara explained that Sifax Shipping Company Limited has been identified as one of the terminals whose trucks are incessantly parked indiscriminately hence, the need for the community to take correctional actions.

He alleged the multinational company of being negligent over its trucks which, he said, are often carelessly parked on the roadside at the detriment of other road users.

He explained that it took his personal efforts complemented by the DTO of Ago Police Division to clear off trucks on the road and restore free flow of traffic on the road when he made an on-the-spot assessment to the road and visited the company.

He said: “We may need to personalise our action or actions to SIFAX group alone as its obvious now they are our problem. We can no longer tolerate this assault on our environment. I therefore direct the taskforce committee to immediately get to the management of Sifax for a letter of undertaking that there will be no parking on the road any day they are loading. This agreement should be done in the presence of the police and our legal team.”
