The Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria has welcome babies of the year with gifts and cash donations as the organisation marked its Day on Sunday.
The organisation distributed the gift items to the beneficiaries to commemorate its international day celebration held recently while giving 100 mama and baby kit packs to pregnant women.
It also donated five physiotherapy machines to five hospitals to help them in the management of babies with jaundice after birth.
The organisation was supported by the chairmen of Isolo and Ejigbo Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), Hon. Shamsideen Olaleye (Shammeh) and Hon. Monsurdeen Oloyede Bello (Obe) with a cash gift of N100,000 to the mothers of the three babies delivered on the New Year day at Isolo General Hospital on Sunday to mark the International Inner Wheel Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the Inner Wheel District 912, Mrs. Rahmat Aderonke Solomon, who appreciated God for the success recorded last year, also commended all her executive members for the success of the international day celebration.
She said: “We thank God for enabling us to celebrate Inner Wheel Day this year because we thought we would not be able to do it due to the coronavirus pandemic, but we thank God for the success.
“This year we were able to welcome the inner wheel baby with lits of gifts. And fortunately for us, we were assisted by the chairmen of Isolo and Ejigbo Local Council Development Areas, Hon Shamsideen Olaleye (Shammeh) and Monsurdeen Oloyede Bello (Obe) with cash gift to the three mothers of the Inner Wheel babies of the year.”
The District chairman said Inner Wheel chose to give out 100 mama and baby kits to pregnant women in Isolo General Hospital as a way of helping the women to ease their burden of buying more materials at pont of birth.
Ahe said: “We have come to celebrate the babies of the year in this hospital and we decided to make other mothers benefit from our large heart that is why we gave out 100 mama and baby kits to pregnant women to take away the burden from them when they are to deliver. We also donated four wheelchairs.
“We also donated physiotherapy machine to five primary health centres and the Isolo General hospital to assist them in the management of babies with jaundice. As far as jaundice stays long in babies, they will have to do a blood transfusion. So, having these physiotherapy machines will go a long way in helping them along with their other equipment to manage such situations quickly.”
Solomon urged the beneficiaries especially the health centres to judiciously use what they have been given.
“They should maintain it very well because it is fragile, they should take good care of it. For the mother and baby kits, they should use they for the purpose,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries of the baby and mother kits, Mrs. Omokaro Veronica, was delighted to have received the packages as she said she least expected it.
She said: “Isolo general hospital is where I use for my antenatal care. I came here early when I received the SMS from the hospital reminding me of this occasion by the Inner Wheel, on getting here, we were well treated. they gave us food, drink, they trained us on how to bath our baby and also gave us mama and baby kits. We were not expected all these. They even gave baby of the year different gifts. This is a programme that was done at the right time.
“We appreciate them and pray God to continue to help them continue their good work.”
