By Modupe Shodeinde

The Kano State Government has directed the closure of ten boarding schools in the state.

The state commissioner for education, Muhammad Kiru, made this known in an announcement across radio stations in Kano on Friday night.

The commissioner stated that the decision became imperative due to the recent abduction of students from boarding schools in neighbouring states.

According to him, the order takes effect immediately, and parents were advised to take their wards from the closed schools.

The closed schools are Government Secondary School Ajingi, Government Girls Secondary School Sumaila, Government Girls Secondary School Jogana, Government Girls Secondary School Gezawa and Government Secondary School Kafin Maiyaki.

Others, according to Mr Kiru, are Maitama Sule Science Secondary School Gaya, Government Girls Unity School Kachako, Government Girls Secondary School Kunchi, Government Unity College Karaye and Government Girls Arabic College Albasu.

This came hours after gunmen kidnapped more than 300 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Secondary School at Jangebe, Zamfara state.

Security operatives are currently on the trail of the gunmen in Zamfara, while President Muhammadu Buhari has warned bandits to desist from such attacks.

Abduction of the schoolgirls comes just nine days after armed men abducted some students of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.

The government is yet to secure the release of the students.
