JUST IN: FG to meet with organized labour later today

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Federal Government is set to meet the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress later in the evening in a bid to avert the proposed strike action slated to start Monday.

According to information reaching us, the meeting will hold at the Presidential Villa Banquet at 7pm.

Previous meetings between the FG and the labour unions had ended without both sides reaching an agreement.

The unions had demanded an immediate reversal of the hike in petrol prices and electricity tariffs, a demand the FG seems reluctant to fulfill.

Leaders of the NLC and the TUC have said the unions will go commence the planned industrial action despite two different rulings restraining them from proceeding with the action.

The Peace and Unity Ambassadors Association secured a court order against the strike on Thursday. A day later, the Department of Civil Litigation of the Federal Ministry of Justice filed an ex parte an application to stop the strike on Friday.
