The Kaduna State Police Command, on Tuesday, said its operatives recovered four motorcycles, and an AK-47 after a fierce battle with bandits who laid ambush along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highway.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the bandits escaped with bullet wounds.

He said, “on the 30th May 2022, at about 1130hrs the operatives of the Kaduna Police Command attached to Buruku Division, while on routine patrol around Udawa along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, ran into an ambush by suspected bandits in their desperate mission to perpetrate violent crime against the unsuspecting commuters.”

He disclosed that the incident, which happened close to Masallaci village, along the said route, led to a heavy gun duel between the operatives and the gun wielding bandits.

According to him, the Police officers, alongside vigilantes, exhibited uncommon courage in returning fire with precision which successfully countered the ambush as the bandits were forced to retreat with varying degrees of bullet wounds into the forest leaving behind one AK47 rifle, as well as four unregistered operational motorcycles

According to him, the items were recovered and taken to Buruku Police station, while efforts are on to trace the whereabouts of the injured bandits to face justice.

The Commissioner of Police, Yekini A. Ayoku applauded the courage and determination shown by the officers in confronting the bandits, just as he urged them to sustain the tempo as he is ever willing to provide the leadership required in motivating his workforce.
