 Kidnapping: Sheikh Akewugba-Gold charges parents to be part of solution

The issue of kidnapping for ransom, banditry and other forms of crime and criminalities will be a thing of the past if parents and guardians monitor and cater for their children.

A renowned Islamic Cleric, Shiekh Mohammed-Taofeek Akewugba-Gold stated this while speaking at the 2021 Ramadan Lecture organized by Muslim Community of Bond 92.9 FM and National Broadcast Academy, the Training arm of Radio Nigeria in Lagos.

Shiekh Akewugba-Gold said parents have great responsibilities to play in monitoring and guarding their children against joining bad gangs capable of jeopardizing their future, advising parents to provide Western and Arabic education to their children so as to shape and mould them against doctrines that would have bad influence on their lives.

The cleric said parents must create time from their busy schedule to checkmate their children in the institutes of learning so as to discover the type of friends they go out with.

Shiekh Akewugba-Gold urged government at all levels to implement policies and programmes targeting at ameliorating the suffering of the masses and create employment opportunities to keep youths out of criminality, saying an idle hand is a devil’s workshop.

In his remark, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Dr. Kayode Omiyale, implored Muslim faithful to use the period of Ramadan to pray for peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance and mutual relationship among Nigerians, saying Ramadan provides opportunities for faithful to show love to the less privileged and downtrodden.

Dr. Omiyale who was represented by his vice, Mr. Bolanle Aileru, said parents must ensure that their children have qualitative education that would help them in distinguish between good and bad.

In a welcome address, the General Manager of Bond FM, Princess Adenike Adegoke, said the annual Ramadan put together by Muslim Community of Bond FM and National Broadcast Academy has contributed immensely to proffer solution to topical issues in the society.

Princess Adegoke said the topic for this year’s Ramadan Lecture, “Roles and Responsibilities of Parents in Achieving Peaceful Society was apt as it would remind parents to rise to their responsibility in ensuring peaceful society.

The Chairman of Muslim Community of Bond and NBA, Alhaji Bola Muibi, implored clerics, traditional and religious leaders to support government in monitor their Community to nip in the bud the activities of criminals elements in the society, saying people are under obligation to share intelligence information with security agent to arrest kidnap for ransom and other forms of crimes in the society.
