Lagos 2023: why I am contesting Lagos governorship -APC Gov. Aspirant Mustapha

By Dayo Badmus,

Lagos state Governorship aspirant, Abdul Hameed Olorunfemi Mustapha has said that, his desire to accelerate the development and growth of Lagos State motivated him to declare ambition.

Speaking at a media parley in Lagos on Monday, 16 May, 2022, Mustapha, a former Permanent Secretary in the state civil service, stated that over the years, Lagos has grown and develop from a state generating N600million monthly in 1999 to about N40 billion which has led to development and growth of the state.

“There is the need to accelerate the growth and development of the state through new ideas. Therefore, my aspiration to become governor of Lagos State is borne out of the desire to accelerate the growth and development of this state with new ideas,” he said.

One of these new ideas is the need to put in place an enduring financial policy to finance education in the state.

Financing education, according to him, will be anchored on creation of special agencies: school construction authority will be responsible for construction and rehabilitation of school infrastructure while the school construction fund will fund education projects in the state.

Mustapha also stated that improvement of security structure in the state will be one of his top priorities if he is voted into power.

On the endorsement of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy by the leadership of the party in the state led by the National Leader of the party and Presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mustapha insisted that Asiwaju had given his words that all aspirants must test their popularity with party members.

“The Asiwaju I know is a democrat and he has stated emphatically that all aspirants must go through the process of primary election to test their popularity with party members,” he said.

Mustapha debunked allegation that he was being used by former state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to heat the polity.

“I said earlier that my aspiration was borne out of the desire to accelerate development and growth already in place in the state. That’s my honest desire. Thus, I can’t be used by anybody to destroy this development and I can’t be used,” he countered.
