Lagos APC bars candidates from travelling abroad until 2027 elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has directed all its candidates contesting the 2027 general elections not to travel outside Nigeria until after the elections.

The party’s state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, issued the directive on Friday during the inauguration of the APC campaign council at the party secretariat in Ikeja.

Ojelabi urged the candidates to cooperate with the campaign council and remain available for campaign activities across the state.

“No candidate is allowed to travel outside the country until after the general election,” he said.

“Let our campaign be devoid of hatred, thuggery and violence.”

Ojelabi said the ruling party would adopt a decentralised grassroots strategy that would deploy APC leaders and other members to senatorial districts, LGAs, wards and polling units.

He said the responsibility placed on APC members required clear lines of command, reporting and accountability throughout the campaign.

According to him, the strategy would be guided by the principle that all politics is local.

“Our emphasis this time will be more on ‘operation man your polling booth’. We are aware we have a total of 13,565 polling booths,” he said.

“Our people need to get involved locally and mobilise to get voters to deliver.

“Our target is to get five million votes out of the projected seven million votes in Lagos state, and we will rely on coordinated grassroots mobilisation to achieve the objective.”
