Lagos APC slams CNN report on Lekki Tollgate incident

By Emmanuel Awosika
The Lagos Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed a report by the Cable News Network (CNN) on the alleged Lekki Tollgate shooting, saying the report “left more questions than answers.”
The party disclosed its stance on the report in a statement released by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo.
Oladejo said those wanting to exploit the CNN report to blackmail the government were mischievous.
The Nigerian Army had earlier admitted to having its men at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, but said they only fired blanks to disperse protesters. It also added that nobody was killed in the incident.
However, the CNN report contradicted the Army’s claim and said a forensic probe showed that live bullets were used against protesters.
Oladejo said the CNN report was an effort to frustrate the work of the Judicial Panel constituted by the Lagos State Government.
He took a swipe at CNN report, calling it a piece of fiction based on rumours. He also contrasted against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) which, he said, provided a balanced coverage of the incident.
He added that the Judicial Panel headed by Justice Doris Okwuobi will not base its investigation of the Lekki Tollgate incident on social media reports.
