The Lagos State Ministry of Justice will evaluate files and prosecute suspected hoodlums who took advantage of the #EndSARS protests to commit crimes.

The ministry stated that 229 suspects were arrested for various crime ranging from murder, arson, stealing, malicious damage of properties and assault before and after the statewide curfew declared by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the state.

This was stated in a statement by Kayode Oyekanmi, Director, Public Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, on Saturday.

It disclosed that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi, has gone round relevant Police formations with a team of prosecutors to evaluate files of those arrested by the police with a view to determine those that have prima facie case made against them.

The statement also added that those with cases to answer to after the evaluation, will be arraigned before the court on Monday, while people with no case to answer to will be released

The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo, also appealed to Lagosians to maintain peace, law and order in the state.

This came as a result of the unfolding of several acts of destruction, violence and looting in the state after the #EndSARS protest, organised to campaign for an end to police brutality, was reportedly hijacked by hoodlums.
