The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its support for plaftoms that allow women excel in sporting activities, improve their well-being and create healthy lifestyles.

This was made known by Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Segun Dawodu, who spoke at the award ceremony of the 2020 Lagos Women Run event, which held over the weekend.

In his address, he reassured organisers and participants that the state government remains committed to its dream of making the Lagos Women Run a world-class marathon event that will help women achieve fulfillment and purpose in their lives.

He said: “The Lagos Women Run provides an avenue for the state to support the female gender as part of our overall commitment to enhance the development of sports in Nigeria.”

Patience Dalyo, a runner from Plateau State, who led throughout the race, crossed the finish line at 43.73 seconds to win the Elite Open race.

The 2020 edition of the Lagos Women Run saw the introduction of the first virtual race in Africa, allowing participants run solely or in groups at any location.
