Lagos police declare businessman wanted over two brutal murders
Lagos State Police Command has declared a 38-year-old businessman, Ahmed Akanbi, wanted in connection with the alleged killing of two individuals in separate incidents within the Eti Osa Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, made the disclosure on Thursday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
According to the police chief, the declaration followed the arrest and confessional statements of two key suspects linked to the crimes. The suspects, Safiu Fatai, also known as Fabo, aged 40, and Yusuf Ismaila, alias Bariga, were arrested on January 24 and February 6, 2026, respectively, after investigations were reopened based on fresh intelligence.
Jimoh said the suspects admitted their involvement in the murder of Sheriff Salami Ishola, 37, who was killed on April 18, 2023, in Moba Town, Eti Osa, as well as Prince Ademola Akinloye, 38, who was shot dead on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Road, Ajiran, also in Eti Osa LGA.
He explained that on April 18, 2023, the suspects, alongside two others identified as Soji Mascot and Kenny, allegedly ambushed Ishola while armed with a locally made pistol, an axe and machetes.
The victim was reportedly dragged into an abandoned building on Mobile Road in Moba, Ajah, where he was restrained and shot multiple times, leading to his death. The assailants then fled the scene.
Investigations further revealed that Safiu Fatai, who remains in police custody, confessed to holding the victim down while the others carried out the shooting.
On the second incident, the police said the same group allegedly employed a similar method to kill Prince Ademola Akinloye, the son of the Ojomu of Ajiran Land, Oba Adetunji Akinloye. The attack occurred around 11:00 a.m. on August 26, 2024, with the victim sustaining fatal gunshot wounds.
The police disclosed that the suspects claimed the killings were carried out on the instruction of Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi, who allegedly hired them to execute the attacks.
According to their statements, Akanbi reportedly paid a total of N2 million for the operation, with N500,000 given to each principal actor shortly after the first killing, alongside promises of further rewards, including foreign travel opportunities and social advancement.
Following a review of confessional statements and other prima facie evidence, the police said Akanbi, along with Soji Mascot, Kenny and one Bode, were linked to the crimes.
Akanbi, identified as the Chief Executive Officer of HAMTAJAK & HALROMALK, Ajiran, Eti Osa LGA, with a last known address at Victoria Bay (Gate One), Royal Pine Estate, Orchid Road, Ikota, Lekki, has been formally declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command.
Police authorities urged members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or the command headquarters, assuring that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
