The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has said Lagos is strategically positioned to emerge as the leading light of Africa due to its economic strength and geographical advantage.

Obasa made the remark while receiving the leadership of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), led by its president, Leye Kupoluyi, during a courtesy visit to the Assembly.

He emphasized that Lagos remains the driving force of Nigeria’s economy despite the presence of Abuja as the nation’s capital, noting that the state continues to attract investments and foster business growth.

According to him, the state government has consistently enacted policies and laws aimed at creating a business-friendly environment, including frameworks that support public-private partnerships and entrepreneurship.

“Lagos is strategically placed to be the leading light of Africa, geographically, economically, and otherwise,” Obasa said.

The Speaker added that these initiatives have strengthened Lagos’ position as a preferred destination for investors and a hub for commercial activities.

In his remarks, Kupoluyi commended the Assembly for its role in promoting economic development and urged continued collaboration between the legislature and the private sector to enhance ease of doing business.

The meeting highlighted a shared commitment between both institutions to sustain Lagos’ growth and reinforce its status as a major economic centre in Africa.
