Lagos: Two truck incidents cleared, traffic restored on Ikorodu Road
Two separate truck incidents that disrupted traffic on Ikorodu Road and at National-Ashade in Lagos State have been cleared, with vehicular movement restored.
The first incident occurred on Sunday when a loaded mixer truck overturned across the Bus Rapid Transit corridor around Palm Grove, inward Obanikoro.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said the truck, belonging to Ecocrete Construction Company, was involved in a lone accident. Preliminary assessment indicated that reckless driving and overspeeding might have contributed to the incident.
The agency said the driver reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
LASEMA, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the police, secured the area and began recovery operations to remove the truck from the BRT corridor.
In a separate incident at about 11:21 p.m. the same day, a MACK truck carrying two 20-foot containers tilted while attempting to make a U-turn at National-Ashade.
According to LASEMA, the truck suffered a tyre burst, causing it to tilt and obstruct about 80 per cent of the roadway.
Responders diverted traffic and secured the area while awaiting heavy-duty recovery equipment.
The two containers were subsequently removed with the aid of a crane and forklifts, while the truck was towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi.
The road was later cleared and reopened to traffic.
LASEMA said no death or injury was recorded in either incident.
The agency advised operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles to maintain their vehicles properly, obey speed limits and exercise caution while driving on Lagos roads.
