LASUSTECH, Nenis Auto Care Organise Capacity Building Workshop For Artisans 

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), in partnership with NENIS Auto Care, has organised a 3-day capacity building workshop titled ‘Safe Automotive Works – 4Rs & U (Reduce, Repair, Reuse, Recycle and Upcycle)’ for the artisans in automotive industry.

The Institution said it was part of its contributions to reduce unemployment through educational development and training.

The programme was held at the College of Agriculture (500-seater) Auditorium started between Wednesday, August 31 and September 2, 2022.

The Dean, College of Engineering, Engr. Muritala Adigun, who represented the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Dr. Oluremi Olaleye, appreciated NENIS Auto Care for holding the training in the University.

He assured the participants that the workshop would instill in them values that will help them in tackling safety challenges in the industry.

Speaking further, he urged the artisans to implement lessons learnt on the HSE (Health Safety and Environment) in order to make their work more efficient and profitable.

Yhe CEO, Nenis Auto Care, Engr. Oduwa Agboneni, who also doubles as the Project Coordinator, explained that the idea of the workshop was to sharpen skills of artisans and students, introducing to them HSE lessons which is intended to strengthen the automotive industry and reduce work hazards to minimal level.

The company pledged to support and sensitise 1000 automotive workers and also train them in the next 18 months; train and certify 200 people on safety at work with a developed HSE curriculum.

It also promised to train 50 fresh graduates of LASUSTECH on safe automotive for two months both online and onsite courtesy of the University of the West of Scotland, London.

According to the company CEO, the company is also planning to set up a pilot automotive museum in Ikorodu.

Also speaking, a University staff member and the Chairman, Advisory Board of NENIS Auto Care, Engr.  Ademola Olorunfemi, applauded Engr. Oduwa for the feat.

He further advised the participants and guests to be committed to their efforts towards developing the automotive industry, saying it is valuable in the long run for everyone.

The Keynote Speaker, Engr. Margret Oguntala, the Deputy President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, expressed joy as she congratulated the team on the laudable step taken to impact lives, while specifically thanking Engr. Oduwa for being a motivation to other female mechanical engineers in the society.

She advised the participants to implement lessons learnt in the training, saying it will help improve their health, safety and environment, adding that the idea is to develop Lagos and Nigeria at large.

Present at the event were representatives from Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN), Nigeria Society of Engineers, (NSE), Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Nigerian Association of Engineering Craftsmen (NAEC), Nigerian Society of Engineering Technicians (NSET), Occupational Safety & Health Association of Nigeria (OSHA), Vulcanizers, Mechanics and Rewires in Ikorodu.
