Mahrez stunner helps Manchester City move 10 points clear

By Joseph Ayinde

A spectacular strike from Riyad Mahrez helped Manchester City move 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they won 3:1 at Everton.

Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva were also on the score sheet as Manchester City became the first team to start a calendar year with 10 top flight victories in a row.

Man City took the lead on 32 minutes when Foden’s first time effort deflected in off Coleman.

Richarlison made it 1 -1 just five minutes later, converting with his knee from close range after Lucas Digne’s shot came back off a post.

Mahrez restored City’s advantage on 63 minutes as his ferocious shot from the right hand side of the penalty area flew in off the far post.

Silva then added a third in the 77th minute, firing a powerful left footed strike beyond Jordan Pickford.

City’s 17th straight victory in all competitions puts them on 56 points, 10 above Manchester United and Leicester City. Everton stay seventh on 37 points.
