Man, 45, frustrated by curfew in Imo commits suicide

Frustrated by the dusk to dawn curfew, a 45-year-old man, Osita Ezuruike, on Tuesday,  reportedly committed suicide in his house at Umudafa, Awo Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Sources in the community reported that the deceased was apparently frustrated with life following the dusk to dawn curfew, which was imposed by the state government to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease in the state.

But the police said the reason why the deceased took his life had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Our correspondent learnt that the deceased’s neighbours alerted the police after they discovered that he had hung himself.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the corpse had been deposited in a morgue.

Ikeokwu said investigation into the incident had commenced.

The police spokesperson stated, “On April 27, acting on a report, operatives from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mbieri moved to Umudafa, Awo Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA, to a house belonging to one Osita Ezuruike, 45, and met the lifeless body of the said Osita dangling. The reason for taking his life could not be ascertained.

“However, the corpse has been removed and deposited in the morgue, while investigation into the incident has commenced.”
