Man City appeal Premier League verdict over financial breaches
Manchester City have lodged an appeal against the independent commission’s verdict on the club’s alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules.
The club confirmed that it filed the appeal at 7pm on Thursday, October 1, challenging the commission’s findings.
An independent commission had found City guilty of serious breaches of the league’s financial regulations covering the 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons.
The commission also found that the club breached its duties to cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation.
Manchester City has maintained its innocence throughout the case and said the commission’s decision contains “clear material errors, of law, principle and fact.”
“The club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions,” the club said.
The Premier League confirmed on Friday that City had appealed the decision.
The appeal will be heard by an independent Appeal Board, with the proceedings remaining private and confidential until publication of the outcome is permitted.
The commission’s findings followed a long-running investigation into more than 100 alleged breaches of Premier League rules.
The separate issue of sanctions will be considered in another hearing, according to the Premier League. Potential sanctions under the league’s rules include fines, points deductions and other sporting penalties.
