Nigeria at 66: FG says Tinubu made difficult decisions after taking office

The Federal Government has said President Bola Tinubu took difficult decisions after assuming office in 2023, as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence anniversary.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the statement on Thursday while reflecting on the country’s progress since independence.

Idris said the administration inherited a number of economic and structural challenges when it assumed office and had to make decisions aimed at addressing them.

He said some of the measures introduced by the government had generated difficulties for Nigerians but were considered necessary by the administration.

The minister said the government remained focused on addressing the country’s economic and social challenges while implementing its policies.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has since experienced periods of military and civilian rule, economic challenges and political transitions.

The anniversary provides an opportunity for reflection on the country’s development, the minister said, while urging Nigerians to remain committed to national development.
