No lives lost in attack on #EndSARS protesters, Sanwo-Olu says

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has denied that lives were lost in the attack on #EndSARS protesters by security operatives on Tuesday.

Speaking in an address on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu, who described the incident as saddening, said he was comforted that the protesters suffered only injuries and no one died in the incident.

He said: “Whilst we pray for the swift recovery for the swift recovery of the injured, we are comforted that we did not record any fatality as against the widespread circulations on social media.”

The Governor’s announcement comes after multiple videos and pictures showing the #EndSARS protesters dying from bullet wounds surfaced online.

Lagos Street Journal reported that soldiers had opened fire on unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate even as they waved the Nigerian flag and sang the Nigerian anthem.

Sanwo-Olu visited the injured protesters at the hospitals this morning.
