The Niger state governor, Abubakar Bello, has said no ransom was paid for the release of students abducted from Government Science College, Kagara.

Recall that gunmen, on February 17, had stormed the Government Science College, Kagara, killed one and kidnapped 42 others.

The victims on Saturday regained their freedom and were received at the government house, Minna, Niger state capital.

While speaking to journalists after meeting the abductees, the governor said no ransom was paid to secure the release of the victims.

However, he said a lot of logistics were involved in ensuring the safe release and movement of the abductees from the kidnappers’ den to the state capital.

“There was no ransom. We, however, incurred a lot of logistics because we had to involve so many groups — even the logistics — to bring them, and to settle the stakeholders — I’m referring to security agencies, our local vigilantes, our traditional rulers and other stakeholders,” he said.

According to him, the release of the students was very demanding and difficult, however he expressed his happiness that the efforts yielded results.
