 NYSC partners with banks to provide start-up loans for corps members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has revealed that the scheme would liase with financial institutions in the country to make start-up loans available for corps members to advance their business ideas.

The DG spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Course at the permanent orientation camp in the Ise-Orun/ Emure-Ekiti area of Ekiti state, noted that the role of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition cannot be over-emphasized in the growth of the nation’s economy

He stated that the scheme would continue to be responsible and responsive to the development of the corps members.

Ibrahim who was represented NYSC state coordinator, Mrs Mary Chikezie, advised corps members to be committed and build on skills learnt during the three-week activities in the camp towards making themselves employers of labour.

According to him, ” I have received impressive reports on your participation in the entrepreneurial and vocational training conducted in Camp under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training, this will go a long way in empowering you for self-employment.

“On our part, we are liaising with financial institutions and other stakeholders with a view to providing start-up loans to enable you to actualise your business dreams. I wish to assure you that Management will continue to explore avenues for optimizing the impact of the programme.”

The NYSC boss while assuring the corps members that the authorities will continue to prioritize their security and welfare, urged them to avoid night journeys, parties and involvement in the politics of host communities.
