Obasa, a bonafide lawyer- SaharaReporters story unfounded – Group asserts

A Group loyal to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Mudashiru Obasa Ambassadors (MOA), has described the report by an online newspaper, SaharaReporters that Obasa is not a lawyer as being clearly malicious, spurious, unfounded and a continuation of irresponsible journalism that Sahara reporters, an online medium, has come to be notoriously known for.
The online medium erroneously reported that the nation’s apex court, the Supreme Court, has claimed that there was no record of Obasa as a lawyer in it’s registry.
It reported: “More trouble may be brewing for Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, as the Supreme Court of Nigeria has revealed that there was no record of him as a lawyer in their registry.”
Responding to the report, the group in a statement on Monday, said there is an avalanche of evidence to prove that the Speaker is a solicitor and barrister of the Supreme Court of Nigeria having attended and graduated from the Nigerian Law School.
“SaharaReporters, together with its hideous sponsors, are just looking for all ways to carry out their detrimental Pull Him Down(PHD) agenda against the Honourable Speaker for selfish and inimical reasons.
“Is it a crime to be a public servant? Must everyone who studies law practice it? When does not practicing your profession disqualify you from the profession? Moreover, a serving public officer is not allowed to engage in any other income earning job including legal practice,’ the group declared.
“The following pictures as evidence showing that Honourable Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa graduated from Law School in 2007 after graduating as a law student from the Lagos State University, put to shame the lies of SaharaReporters and its cohorts in this utterly retrogressive blackmail game.”
The group asked SaharaReporters to verify its fact before publishing damaging reports, adding that it could get all other facts and evidence from the Speaker if it really wants to have them and be objective in its subsequent reports.
According to the group, the Supreme Court’s acclaimed statement reported by the medium stated that “MUDASHIRU AJAYI OBASA is at liberty to come to the honourable court with his call to bar and qualifying certificates for enrollment” shows that the court does not deny or disqualify Obasa as a Lawyer.
The group has since urged the public to disregard any negative report by SaharaReporters on Obasa, emphasising that the medium and its sponsors were only trying to defame the Speaker to achieve their selfish end.
